The Ernst-Kirchweger-Haus is the only Squat in Vienna and has been around for ages. In the spirit of Christmas the powers that be decided it is time to get rid of it and clear it out. All people living there have to move out by New Years, including a couple of organisations that help refugees and used the building for their offices...

The demonstration took place on the last shopping weekend before christmas on one of the main streets in Vienna. For some strange reasons the cops went beserk and mustered a force that could have repelled a small army. The ratio of cops to demonstrators was roughly 10 to 1. I guess they wanted to make sure none of the happy christmas shoppers got distracted...
